Ephemeral Beings: Objects of Ridicule
EPHEMERAL BEINGS MAIN

The idea for this work originated from looking at some of the drawings that my two sons have done. Their drawings struck me because, despite the primitive drawing skills used, their images often conveyed a certain poignance. Using some of the stylistic elements they employed, I attempted to draw faces in the manner that a child would.

It was very diffficult initially to maintain a deliberate crudeness of style while trying to be expressive. Somehow this work, as it evolved, came to describe fragile beings who cannot quite make it in this world. They appear at times to want to vanish, and at other times, appear ridiculous in their attempts to face and fool the world.
